COMMON CAR PROBLEMS GUIDE

Brake Pad Replacement
What is the part that needs repair, and what does it do?
Your brake pads are attached to the pistons that press against the wheels when you step on the brake. The pads are coated with friction material to maximize stopping power when you brake.
How did this part get damaged or worn on my car? What is wrong with it?
Over time the friction material on each pad wears down from rubbing against the brake rotors, becoming smoother and thinner.
What other problems can this issue cause?
Smoother and thinner brake pads decrease brake performance and safety. If worn down pads are left on the car, the brakes will continually become less and less effective, to the point of dangerous loss of speed control.
