Tensioner seals protect the equipment that keeps tension on a chain that helps drive your engine.

 

How did this part get damaged or worn on my car?  What is wrong with it?

Tensioner seals break down over time and begin to leak engine oil.

 

What other problems can this issue cause?

Oil leakage will mean more frequent oil changes and can cause an increase in wear to parts not meant to be exposed to oil. It can also cause a fire in you engine compartment.
