COMMON CAR PROBLEMS GUIDE

CV Boot Replacement
What is the part that needs repair, and what does it do?
Your car transmission uses an axle joint called a Constant Velocity Joint to transmit power from one axle to an axle aligned at a different angle. It is covered with a rubber “boot” that protects it from outside contaminants and keeps in grease – the CV boot.
How did this part get damaged or worn on my car? What is wrong with it?
CV boots are unfortunately positioned such that they don’t have much protection from the strains of driving. When a boot cracks or tears, contaminants are introduced to the CV joint.
What other problems can this issue cause?
Contaminants make the CV joint degrade much faster. A torn CV boot will make repairs to your axle or CV joint necessary sooner than they normally would be.
